Lots of Gardening, and Maybe Chickens!

Mum and the rest of us have been gardening a lot for the last few days. In the backyard, there was one big weed and a rose bush. My brothers and mum couldn't pull the weed out because it was so tough, but when Miraculous Me came along, I just grabbed it and yanked it out with my bare hands! After that there was a rose bush that Mum didn't want because she thought it was a thorny, superfluous weed, so we had to pull it out. And you guessed it, I ripped it out! Today we realised that Dad really wanted that rose bush, so now he's getting it out of the bin to plant it again. 😧  Last Thursday, Mum and us children planted some Pak Choy in the garden beds. I wasn't really into it, but I helped a little. And Mum said she really wants chickens. I really want chickens, too. If I got to name one I would name it CHOCOLATE! 😀 One of my brothers said he would call one Toby or Rumplestiltskin, and one of my other brothers said that he wanted to call one Skinny Legs!  One day last ye...

Secret Code!

Code is a way of talking to each other without saying words. Code can be formed in many different ways. I will use two of my favourite codes! The first code is with letters and numbers: A=1 B=2      C=3 D=4      E=5 F=6      G=7 H=8      I=9 J=10      K=11 L=12     M=13 N=14     O=15 P=16     Q=17 R=18     S=19 T=20     U=21 V=22     W=23 X=24     Y=25 Z=26. 8 15 16 5    25 15 21     5 14 10 15 25 5 4     20 8 5    3 15 4 5! What did I just say? A.  Did you enjoy the code. B. Hope you enjoyed the code. C. Asdf  dft  vfghyuj  edf  frtg! If you answered B, you are correct! 😀 If you answered C, you are the worst reader in the world!  Second code: A= +           B= - C= x           D= : E= &...

Lego Singer!

Image
Once I was in my room playing Lego, when I tried to make a face! Faces are one of the hardest things to make out of Lego, but I did it! First I got most of the skin-coloured Lego pieces from inside the tub. Then I started to make a jaw of the face, which took a long time to get the shape and size right. After that, I started to make the head, nose, and eyes for the face, which also took a long time to get right. I got the jaw part and slid it into the Lego head so the jaw could slide up and down to make it talk. It was very hard to make him and it took a lot of trial and error, but I got it done. Here's a video below of him singing! I hope you like the video, and don't forget to see my other Lego creation called Thumsey 👍 coming in another of my blog posts soon! 😀

Flamin' Foot

I was carving some wood for a sword on a work horse. The leg from the work house folded in and fell on my foot! Ouch!  Now I am at the hospital in the waiting room with my dad at 5:17pm, wearing a silly mask! I came to Emergency and a nurse practitioner examined my foot. I took off my shoe and sock, and she saw where it was bruised. After she examined the foot, she said I had to get an x-ray. I got two x-r ays done on my foot. Looking at the x-rays, it is not broken, thankfully! I can't walk on my foot very well, so I usually hop or walk on the side of my foot where it doesn't hurt much.  My foot is getting better, all I ask is that people don't kick it or step on it!    When my foot is fully recovered, I can jump on the trampoline again and hopefully not hurt it, because Mum and Dad are getting tired of taking us kids to the hospital all of the time!

The Week that Was!

Image
This week I made a few marble runs, of course! I made one out of cardboard boxes and am currently working on one that will me made out of paper towel rolls. I chipped a marble this week, too. It snowed in Melbourne on Wednesday (read more in the previous post)! This might not be a big deal to people who get snow every Winter, but it doesn't typically snow in Melbourne. Mum has been doing some gardening to prepare the Spring garden beds. On Thursday, when we were gardening, we picked a bucket load of potatoes that Mum didn't even know we were growing! Tonight we are eating mashed potatoes. On Thursday, I was carving wood to make a sword when the wooden stand I was carving on slipped and fell on my foot! It was very heavy! My foot became very inflamed and my dad, who is a nurse, said that it's not impossible that my foot could be broken. We'll wait to see if it improves. We've also been doing a lot of school work this week. In maths, Mum and I have been learning how t...

Snow in Melbourne!

Image
On Wednesday it snowed in Melbourne! It doesn't typically snow, so it was a big surprise! I really wanted it to snow at our house,  BUT IT DIDN'T!  I was really annoyed about that; I really want to see snow! The closest place it snowed was about 20 minutes from our house! The weather bureau said that it was the coldest August day in 24 years! To be honest, I don't believe that because you can never believe the weather man. It would be really fun if we jumped on the trampoline with snow on it. Our feet wouldn't like it though! Image: Snow in Melbourne. Crazy Covid!

Image
Covid-19, or Coronavirus, is a disease that is spreading across the globe! If you don't know about it, then you have serious problems (blame your parents for that)! The virus originated in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has since spread around the world. Some people have a theory that the virus was created by scientists in China to be used against the Americans in warfare, but there is not enough strong evidence for this. Our Premier is making all these rules for us at the moment to stop the coronavirus spreading: You have to stay home, you can't go to people's houses, you can't go further than 5km from your house, most shops are closed, and you have to wear a mask outside of your property 😷. I wouldn't be surprised if he told us to wear GOGGLES! We might as well just wear a sleep mask and stay in bed under the covers! By the end of this year we will probably be wearing three masks, two goggles, four ear plugs in each ear,  two safety suits, and a snorkel suit! If w...

Telescopes Look Back in Time!

Image
Have you ever wanted to look back in time? Well, you can through a telescope!   If you want to look through a telescope into space, it's not always as it seems. It takes time for light to travel to your telescope, so we see things as they looked when the light first started to travel. When you look at the sun through a telescope, it takes such a long time for the light to travel from the sun to the telescope, that you see the sun as it was 7 minutes ago! When looking at Jupiter through a telescope, you see it as it was 33 minutes ago. It takes Pluto 4 hours for its light to travel. If you are looking at Proxima Centauri (the nearest star to the sun), you see it as it was 4.3 years ago! Sirius (the brightest visible star) takes 8.6 years for light to travel. For Polaris (the North Star), you see it as it was 430 years ago. Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy (the nearest galaxy to ours) takes 25,000 years for its light to travel and for my favourite galaxy, Large Magellanic Cloud (brightest ga...

Poisonous Phosphorus!

Image
Phosphorus i s flammable, poisonous, and essential to life! Phosphorus is a substance made by a German experimenter named Henna Brand in 1669. He discovered it when he tried to make gold out of boiling urine! YUCK!  First he boiled a lot of urine into a paste and let it cool down. Then he heated it up till it was red hot and let it cool down till it became phosphorus! If exposed to oxygen, pure phosphorous will burn into flames. DO NOT TOUCH IT because it can cause serious burns! Eating just a speck of pure phosphorus can bring a person into a coma. However, it can be useful when combined with other things like matches and detergent. Phosphorus is naturally found in some foods like grains and meat, so we can eat it that way. It helps our bones and teeth grow properly and is the 6th most common element in the human body! Just one word of advice: Please - Don't. Boil. Urine.
